Lacrosse secures spot in gold medal game

The Ontario Tech lacrosse program secured their best finish in a season yet with an 11-7 victory over the Trent Excalibur in the OUA Lacrosse Championship semifinals and will now move on to the gold medal game on Sunday at noon where they will face the Queen's Gaels.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Ontario Tech lacrosse program secured their best finish in a season yet with an 11-7 victory over the Trent Excalibur in the OUA Lacrosse Championship semifinals and will now move on to the gold medal game on Sunday at noon where they will face the Queen's Gaels.

The Ridgebacks started the day with a hard fought 10-9 win over the Western Mustangs. Jailyn Joensen led the Ridgebacks offensive production with four goals and assist, while Olivia Toll added three goals, and Kendra Orr pitched in two of her own. Ontario Tech carved out an early lead, but the Mustangs began to chip into the lead in the second half, eventually tying the game in the fourth. Joensen scored the decisive goal in the final minutes of the game to give the Ridgebacks the win.

In the semifinals game, Audrey Taylor came to life with five goals, while Kendra Orr had four, and Joensen with two.

The gold medal game against the Queen's Gaels will take place tomorrow at noon and be streamed on OUA.tv
