Your Student Health Plan is Getting an Upgrade: What You Need to Know
Big news! Starting September 1, 2025, your student Health Plan will be migrating to the new Benefits Management Platform — an all-in-one location for easier access to your health plan benefits, to submit claims, and manage your coverage.
Here’s a quick rundown of everything you need to know to stay ahead of the change.
What’s changing?
As of September 1, Canada Life services will no longer be the provider managing your benefits. Instead, your plan is moving to a new, all-in-one platform called myStudentBenefits that handles your health care coverage, including dental, vision, prescription drug coverage, medical equipment, medical practitioners like counselors and chiropractors.
What do I need to do?
- Download the app: Look for the Benefits App on the Apple Store or Google Play.
- Register early: If you’re a current active student, you can pre-register starting August 18, 2025.
- Start using the new platform: Claims and coverage access begin September 1, 2025.
Can I still use my Canada Life benefits card?
No. After August 31, 2025, your Canada Life benefits card will no longer work. You’ll need to download a new digital benefits card from the app starting September 1.
What about my dentist, pharmacy, or other providers?
All health care providers must start using a new plan number on September 1, 2025. Be sure to show them your new digital benefits card at your next visit.
Can I access my old claims?
Yes. While you can’t submit claims during the pre-registration period, your claim history from Canada Life will still be available once the new platform goes live.
I’m a new student this fall. When can I register?
New eligible students beginning their studies at Ontario Tech in September can register once their plan is active, 60 days after the start of their program. We will hold an info and registration event in October for all new students.
I’m a returning student, can I register now?
Yes! Starting August 18, current students already enrolled in the plan can download and register for the myStudentPlan benefits app. We are holding a virtual registration event on August 18 for all returning students
Benefits to registering early:
- Get familiar with the new layout and features
- Make sure your account is set up before claims open
- Receive helpful updates and reminders
What can’t I do during pre-registration?
Between August 18–31, returning students can set up your account and explore the platform — but you won’t be able to submit claims or view your benefits card until September 1.
