Join free group fitness classes this summer!

Ignite your fitness journey and experience the power of group fitness on our campus. From barre to spin, to yoga and self-defence, our fitness classes will help you stay active, energized, and motivated throughout your academic journey. Guided by experienced instructors, classes are open to all skill levels, beginner to advanced. Each semester, classes are offered at a variety of days and times and vary in length from thirty to fifty-minute classes.

All fitness classes are free for members of the campus community, including students, staff, and faculty.

REGISTRATION

To register for group fitness classes, please visit the Recreation Portal or download the Campus Rec app. Participants can log in to the Recreation Portal or Campus Rec app using their student/staff ID number and network password. 

All fitness class reservations can be made up to three days in advance of the specific class date and are first-come, first-served.

To join a specific class:

  1. Select the ‘Group Fitness - Book a Spot’ icon.
  2. Select the day and class you wish to join.
  3. Select the day that you are booking and click ‘Book Now’.
  4. Participants will receive a registration confirmation message in the bottom left-hand corner, as well as a confirmation email to their student/staff email address.

To cancel a fitness class booking:

  1. Click the student/staff ID number in the upper right corner.
  2. Select ‘Profile’ followed by ‘Bookings’.
  3. Cancel the specific class booking.
  4. Participants can also email campusrecfacilities@dc-ot.ca to cancel their booking.

MEET THE INSTRUCTORS

Brooke – Yoga & Dance

Brooke is a self-employed yoga instructor who runs a small business working with athletes in the Durham Region. She teaches all ages and levels, from beginner to experienced and has worked with many different yoga studios around Durham. 

Yoga with Brooke provides yoga classes to work on the mind, body and breath. Her classes focus on strength, balance, and flexibility that cater to the audience she's working with. Her yoga interests stemmed from her time as a professional dancer, which led her to working with like-minded individuals in pursuit of their full athletic potential.

Kathy – Pilates 

Kathy is a lifelong pilates and fitness enthusiast who is certified with Body Harmonics. Her teaching style is welcoming and supportive to all participants and she encourages questions through her sessions if you have them.

She gives options for easier and more intense poses to make sure the class is geared towards all participants. 

Norah – Progressive Pilates & Spin and Core

Norah has been leading pilates sessions for over six years, and it brings her immense joy to guide and witness people becoming stronger while feeling empowered through her teaching. She thrives on pushing her students to reach their potential while instilling confidence in their abilities. Her goal is for everyone, regardless of their fitness level, to leave her class feeling fantastic and eager to return.

She obtained her indoor cycling certification through C.O.R.E. Studios CSS and has been leading classes since 2015. For Norah, teaching indoor cycling is not just enjoyable, but serves as a fantastic way to unwind after a hectic day, all while collaborating with others to offer an engaging and invigorating ride. Her goal is for everyone to relish their time in class, and depart feeling fantastic, regardless of their fitness level. 

Zahra – Bollywood Dance

Zahra has been doing Bollywood dance for over 20 years. She loves teaching and dancing with her students, and she believes having fun during classes and leaving you with a smile on your face by the end of class.

Deanna – Siesta & Hatha Yoga

Deanna has been teaching at the FLEX for over 10 years. She's taught sculpt/strength and relaxing yoga classes. She's been studying yoga for over 30 years, and brings experience, knowledge and encouragement to all her classes. She has a friendly and helpful approach that encourages all fitness and experience levels.

With relaxing music, clear and detailed suggestions, cues for safer and more effective alignment/form, you'll find yourself leaving relaxed and loosened from any stress your body may be holding. She prides herself on her enthusiasm, passion, commitment, reliability, and gratitude, and does her best to practice what she preaches through a strong belief/ritual of work and play/work with rest.

Genevieve – Yoga 

Genevieve was introduced to yoga over 25 years ago, and she left her first class feeling taller, stronger, and at peace.  She has been practicing ever since and has found yoga to be a great compliment to her other activities. Genevieve completed her teaching certification in 2015 and teaches a practice that is focused on increasing mobility and strength.
