Lions snap Ridgebacks win-streak
OSHAWA, Ont. – In a close battle Saturday night, the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks fell short in a 2-1 overtime defeat to the York Lions, snapping their eight game win-streak.
Ontario Tech's Matt Wisener got the Ridgebacks on the board with a goal in the first period at 7:46, assisted by Alex Park and Braiden Koran.
Goaltender William Desmarais was steadfast, saving 17 of York's 19 shots across three periods, but the Lions broke through in the third with Klim Georgiev scoring at 1:41, tying the game at 1-1. Ontario Tech's penalty trouble played a role, particularly in the third, where cross-checking penalties disrupted their momentum.
As the game headed into overtime, York capitalized quickly. Just 37 seconds into the extra period, Keeton Oakley netted the game-winner for the Lions with help from Thomas Lacombe, sealing the Ridgebacks' fate.
The Ridgebacks will now ready themselves for a road trip to Quebec to take on UQTR on Friday, Novemeber 8.
