Are you stressed about any exams coming up? Follow these tips to alleviate your stress and stay in control.

Make an exam study plan

Make a list of the topics covered on the exam and estimate the time needed to review each topic. Then create a schedule with all these study hours on a calendar. Try your best to stick to the schedule as well as you can and avoid procrastinating.

Student Learning Centre resources

If you need help understanding a topic, try booking an appointment with a Peer Tutor or attending a Peer Assisted Study Session. If you need help making your exam study plan, try booking an appointment with a Peer Success Facilitator, or attending a STRIDE Workshop.

Stay healthy

Ensure you eat well, eat healthy foods, and avoid excessive sugar or caffeine. Stay hydrated and drink plenty of water. Exercise, as physical activity, can help alleviate stress and make you feel refreshed and energetic. Get some fresh air by spending some time outdoors, taking a walk, spending time in nature, etc. Ensure you are getting enough sleep, especially the day before your exam, as all-nighters have proven ineffective.

Mindfulness techniques

Practice mindfulness techniques such as breathing exercises and meditation, which allow you to be aware of your emotions and calm yourself down. Also, try other stress-relieving activities such as doodling, using fidget toys, talking to friends or family, journalling, watching humorous content, etc.

Positive self-talk

You got this! Make sure you let yourself know that you are a capable, intelligent, and fantastic person. Try posting motivational posters or sticky notes near where you study. Whenever you research and start to feel overwhelmed, talk or think to yourself and give yourself more confidence.
