Ridgebacks’ four-game win streak ends in shootout
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team saw its four-game winning streak come to an end with a 2–1 shootout loss to the Queen's Gaels on Friday night at the Campus Ice Centre.
Queen's opened the scoring midway through the first period to take a 1–0 lead into the first intermission. Ontario Tech responded with sustained pressure through the middle frame, outshooting the Gaels, but the game remained scoreless through forty minutes.
The Ridgebacks broke through early in the third period, as Cassandra Delves evened the score at 1:25, finishing a feed from Milana Perri to tie the game at one. Ontario Tech carried momentum through the remainder of regulation and into overtime, but Queen's capitalized in the shootout to secure the game.
The night also featured a celebration of Hunter the Ridgeback's 20th birthday, complete with cake and special assistance from Alfie of the Oshawa FireWolves, adding to the atmosphere at the Campus Ice Centre.
Zoe McGee turned aside 28 shots in goal for Ontario Tech, helping the Ridgebacks secure a point despite the result.
Ontario Tech wraps up its home regular-season schedule on Saturday, January 31, hosting the Windsor Lancers for Graduating Seniors Day. Puck drop is set for 3 p.m.
