Ridgebacks fall short in offensive showdown

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks and Mustangs lit up the Campus Ice Centre with goals on Friday night, but Ontario Tech fell short iin a 5-4 loss to the Western Mustangs.

Ridgebacks opened the scoring in the first period with Robyn Storey's equalizer assisted by Ella Dickson and Mackenna Krulicki, leveling the score at 1-1 after an initial Western goal.

Ontario Tech found momentum early in the second period, with Cassandra Delves scoring at 1:49 to give the Ridgebacks a brief lead. A short-handed goal from Julia Jackson further extended Ontario Tech's advantage to 3-1. However, Western quickly regained control, netting four consecutive goals before the end of the period, capitalizing on power play opportunities and persistent offensive pressure, bringing the score to 5-3 in their favour.

Despite Western's surge, Ontario Tech battled hard in the third period. Avery Dowson scored a power-play goal, narrowing the margin to 5-4. Although they pushed for an equalizer, Ontario Tech was unable to overcome Western's defense and goaltending. Ridgebacks goalie Zoe McGee had a strong performance with 31 saves, while Ariella Merlino added 11 saves in relief. 

The Ridgebacks will be back at the Campus Ice Centre tomorrow at 3 p.m. when they host the visiting Windsor Lancers.
