NORTH BAY, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks women's hockey team pulled off a dramatic 2-1 overtime win against the Nipissing Lakers to kick start the new year.
With the game tied in the extra frame, Alyssa Denney buried the winner at 2:13, converting on a setup from Harrie Jones to seal the victory.
Jones had a standout performance, scoring the Ridgebacks' opening goal on the power play at 1:56 of the second period, with an assist from Cassandra Delves. Goaltender Zoe McGee was stellar in net, turning aside 29 shots to keep her team in contention throughout.
The Lakers struck first in the contest, with Madison Desmerais finding the back of the net just one minute into the game. Assists went to Lana Duriez and Jill Hennessy. Nipissing carried a slim lead into the second period, but penalties proved costly as Ontario Tech capitalized on their chances.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on January 10 when they take on the Nipissing Lakers again at the Campus Ice Centre.
