Announced on Wednesday night as part of the CHAMP (Celebrating and Honouring Achievements in Marketing and Promotions) awards, Ontario Tech was recognized with a pair of awards.
Hunter the Ridgeback was named Best Mascot, the third time receiving the award. Hunter becomes the first mascot to achieve the feat in the OUA, as well as become the first to win back-to-back.
"We take a lot of pride in the role athletics plays on our campus and Hunter has become a staple for all students at Ontario Tech – not just at varsity games and events. This award is a testament to that and we're excited to share that with the students that bring the Ridgeback pride to campus and the community as Hunter," said athletic director Scott Barker."
Ontario Tech's athletic department was also the recipient Best G3 Championship for the OUA women's curling championship in February. The award is presented to the championship host in the G3 sport category that provided a winning experience for student-athletes and fans. The host went above and beyond to establish an engaging atmosphere and memorable banner season event.
"We're proud as a department to be recognized for the work surrounding the OUA women's curling championship," said Barker. "Our staff consistently work on the fine details when we host events to ensure the student-athlete experience is the best in the province. Congratulations to them on this recognition."
This marks nine CHAMP awards won by Ontario Tech since the awards were launched in 2015.
Previous awards won by Ontario Tech include:
Best G3 Championship – Lacrosse (2022)
