Achioso and Gosse lead Ridgebacks in hard-fought battle
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks put up a determined fight Friday night but fell 65-49 to the Lakehead Thunderwolves at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
Amarachi Achioso led the Ridgebacks with 14 points, five steals, and five rebounds, showcasing her all-around game. Kaleah Gosse added 12 points and four boards, going 6-for-9 from the free-throw line, while Quincy Okubasu anchored the defense with a game-high four blocks and eight rebounds. Despite their efforts, the Ridgebacks shot just 28.1 per cent from the field and committed 13 turnovers, which proved costly.
Paula Lopez led the Thunderwolves with 12 points and four rebounds, while Kelly-Ann Coulombe added a double-double with 11 rebounds and eight points. Keira Chow chipped in nine points, including two three-pointers in the first quarter that set the tone early for Lakehead.
Ontario Tech started strong, holding an early two-point lead in the first quarter, but Lakehead's efficient offense pulled away in the second half. The Ridgebacks' bench added 17 points in the effort.
