Ridgebacks continue to get bigger with addition of Okubasu
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's basketball team is continuing to bolster its frontcourt with the addition of Quincy Okubasu.
The six-foot forward from Toronto, Ont. is currently playing for Halton Region JUEL where she is averaging nine points, nine rebounds, and two steals per game in league play. Previously, Okubasu helped lead Crestwood Prep to back-to-back CISSA Division 1 Championships in 2022/23 and 2023/24 being named a captain in her senior season. Okubasu spent the 2023 AAU season competing with Canada Elite where she was named Top Performer at the Prep Girls Hoops Live event in Michigan.
"We are very excited to be adding Quincy to our 2024 recruiting class. A mobile forward who can guard multiple positions, Quincy is able to use her length for deflections and alters shots on the defensive end," said Ridgebacks women's basketball head coach Megan Grant. "Her athleticism allows her to be an active presence on the boards, and she will be an important part of our transition game moving forward."
Okubasu said once she met the coaching staff and team at Ontario Tech that she was able to envision herself as part of the community.
"I quickly noticed the coaches are very kind and supporting and from attending games and being a part of a practice, they are the exact type of coaches that I would enjoy playing for and have shown confidence in me as a player," said Okubasu. "I am extremely happy to continue my career at Ontario Tech."
Okubasu will be enrolling in Educational Studies this fall and joins previously announced recruits Ayat Weber (Montreal, Que.) and Grace Dixon (Pickering, Ont.) for the 2024-25 season.
