Ridgebacks fall short in match up with Gryphons

A strong start for the Guelph Gryphons proved to be too much, as the Ridgebacks women's basketball team fell 84-68 on the road.

GUELPH, Ont. – A strong start for the Guelph Gryphons proved to be too much, as the Ridgebacks women's basketball team fell 84-68 on the road.

Guelph stormed out to an early lead, powered by Renee Armstrong's near triple-double performance of 12 points, 10 rebounds, and nine assists. Ontario Tech's Kaleah Gosse fought back with a team-high 15 points, but the Ridgebacks couldn't overcome their early shooting woes and the Gryphons' dominant 27-19 second quarter.

Ontario Tech hung tough in the second half, with Adra Barnet contributing 11 points off the bench, but Guelph's relentless defensive pressure, which generated 11 steals, ensured the visitors never got closer than 10 points. The Gryphons' Hannah Bourdon led all scorers with 16 points before fouling out in the fourth quarter.

The 2024 portion of the Ridgebacks' schedule has come to an end as they'll now head off for winter break. The season will resume on Friday, January 10 for a match up with the Nipissing Lakers at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
