Russell and Metaj named Ontario Tech athletes of the week
OSHAWA, Ont. – Erion Metaj (Whitby, Ont.) of the men's soccer team and Samantha Russell (Georgetown, Ont.) of the women's soccer team have been named athletes of the week for the period ending on September 22.
Metaj, a Commerce student, has been a longtime contributor to Ridgebacks soccer and soccer in the Durham region. This weekend, Metaj had four shots on goal and one goal in the Ridgebacks game against the Laurentian Voyageurs on Saturday.
Russell, a Commerce and Co-op student, has had several close calls recently as she searched for her first goal, but this weekend, she opened her scoring account on the season in style with an 86th-minute goal that secured the Ridgebacks their first win of the year in a 1-0 victory over the Laurentian Voyageurs.
Both soccer teams will be back in action on September 27 against the Trent Excalibur, with the women's team suiting up at 6 p.m., while the men's soccer team suits up again on September 27 at 8:15 p.m.
