1,300 students set new Campus Cup attendance record
OSHAWA, Ont. – This year, Campus Cup was billed as the biggest ever, and it delivered with over 1,300 fans in attendance for the yearly classic.
The Durham Lords women's soccer team opened up the games with a 2-1 victory over the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks, snapping the 10-year streak of wins from the blue team. The lone Ridgebacks goal came from Georgia Hogan in the 32nd minute. This marks the first time Durham has defeated the Ridgebacks since the inaugural game.
On the men's side, the Ridgebacks fell for the second straight year as Durham won 3-2 in regulation with goals coming from Glodi Kabuya (Oshawa, Ont.) and Ashkaun Mohammadi (Pickering, Ont.) with an equalizing goal skirting just wide of the net in the final seconds of the game.
The Ridgebacks soccer teams will be in action again on Friday, September 6, when they take on the Nipissing Lakers at Vaso's Field at 6/8:15 p.m.
