Ridgebacks fall 2-0 in season debut
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's soccer team opened their season with a 2-0 loss to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night at Vaso's Field.
Toronto struck early as Mehdi Essoussi converted from the penalty spot in the 15th minute to give the visitors a 1-0 lead. Despite creating chances throughout the match, the Ridgebacks were unable to equalize before Niklas Hallam added an insurance marker in the 88th minute, assisted by Kingsley Belele.
Ontario Tech tallied 11 shots in the match, led by Jeremy Caprietta with three, while goalkeeper Peter Sheberstov made three saves. Toronto held a 19-11 advantage in shots and a 4-1 edge in corner kicks.
The Ridgebacks will return to action on Sunday, hosting the Nipissing Lakers at 1 p.m. at Vaso's Field.
