Over 1,700 students set Campus Cup attendance record
OSHAWA, Ont. – For a second straight year Campus Cup has set a new attendance record, with over 1,700 students packing Vaso's Field to watch the Ontario Tech women's soccer team bring home the Campus Cup.
Excitement for the longest running athletic tradition on campus was evident from the start, with the line to get in reaching around the corner of the field. Fans were treated to a BBQ from Harvey's free ice cream, t shirts and a chance at a free iPad.
The women's game opened up the night, where Annemieke Hermans and Sophia Campanella netted goals to give the Ridgebacks a 2-0 lead that would secure their Campus Cup win.
Anthony Dawoud would find the net for the men later that night, but the Durham Lords would take their third straight men's Campus Cup on penalty kicks after tying the game 1-1.
