Ridgebacks win OUA Men's Soccer Championship

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks defeated York 2-1 on Saturday at York Lions Stadium in the Ontario University Athletics men's soccer finals to take home their first OUA championship in program history.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks defeated the York Lions 2-1 on Saturday at York Lions Stadium in the Ontario University Athletics men's soccer finals to take home their first OUA championship in program history.

The Ridgebacks led the Lions 2-0 at the end of the first half, with both goals scored by Erion Metaj, including the opening goal in the 7th minute. Ontario Tech's Kevon Grant made a key save against a shot by the Lions' Matthew Medeiros, while the Lions' Alessio Carbone recorded multiple saves, including one against Alexander Irwin

In the second half, the Lions found a response with a goal from Matthew Medeiros, assisted by Luca Accettola in the 74th minute.

Metaj stood out for Ontario Tech and continued his hot streak over the playoffs with his two goals. Kevon Grant also made a significant impact by recording three saves, facing four shots on goal. 

After the win, Metaj shared his thoughts on Ontario Tech's victory at York Lions Stadium. He expressed deep appreciation for his team and coaching staff, saying, "Absolutely unreal feeling this team, this group, this coaching staff. Second to none. It's honestly one of the best teams I've ever been a part of. Hard work gets you there. We deserve it."

Reflecting on the team's resilience during the season, Metaj highlighted their determination, stating, "it's just that Ontario Tech DNA in us, you know, people can take us down, beat us down, but that's OT – we come back up."
