OSHAWA, Ont. – Ariella Merlino of women's hockey and Justin Svenson of men's hockey have been named Ontario Tech athletes of the week for the period ending on January 12.

Merlino and the Ridgebacks women's hockey team picked up a big win at home fending off the York Lions this weekend. Merlino was a wall between the pipes and racked up 36 saves in the 2-1 victory.

The men's hockey team returned to OUA action this weekend with a barn burner in Toronto that saw the Ridgebacks narrowly lose 5-4. Svenson notched a hattrick in the game, and followed it up with a goal and assist against the Nipissing Lakers the next day.
