Ridgebacks claim third annual Carriage Cup
OSHAWA, Ont. — Snow and blowing wind did little to deter supporters at the Tribute Communities Centre on Thursday, January 15, as fans turned out for the third annual Carriage Cup and watched the Ontario Tech Ridgebacks earn a 3–2 overtime victory over the RMC Paladins.
Fans battled through a winter storm to pack the building, providing strong support throughout a tight, back-and-forth contest.
Ontario Tech struck twice late in the first period, with William Robinson opening the scoring at 17:41 before Alex Drover added another just 12 seconds later to give the Ridgebacks a 2–0 lead after 20 minutes.
RMC responded in the second and third periods, tying the game on goals from Jarrett Todd and Brock McNaughton to force overtime.
The Ridgebacks capitalized in the extra frame, as Gabriel Bernier scored the overtime winner 1:44 into the period, finishing a play set up by Jeremy Michaud to bring the Carriage Cup back home.
Beckett Langkow earned the win in goal for Ontario Tech, stopping 16 shots, while the Ridgebacks outshot the Paladins 29–18.
