Year in Review - Fall 2022

Fall 2022
September 6 – The Ontario Tech University women's soccer team won their ninth straight Campus Cup with a 2-1 win over the Durham Lords. For the men, they followed with a 2-1 victory over the Durham Lords to sweep the Campus Cup for the fifth straight year.
 

 
September 6 – After starting the 2022 season with a 2-0 victory over the Queen's Gaels the Ontario Tech men's soccer program has cracked the U SPORTS Top 10 rankings for the first time. They enter the rankings No. 10 in the country.
 
September 9 – Christopher Campoli etched his name into Ontario Tech history becoming the men's soccer team's all-time goal scorer. His 52nd minute goal became his 21st career goal in 26 conference matches as the No. 10 ranked Ridgebacks cruised to a 2-0 victory over the Excalibur.
 

 
September 14 – Christopher Campoli is racking up awards as he claims U SPORTS men's soccer player of the week following an Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week award on September 4. Campoli is the third player in UOIT/Ontario Tech history to win U SPORTS athlete of the week. He previously did it in 2021-22 and was only preceded by Jessica Larabie (women's hockey) in 2010-11 and Erik Petrovic (men's soccer) in 2015-16.
 
September 27 – Led by the Ridgeback Leadership Council, the Ontario Tech varsity teams ran their annual Think Pink campaign in support of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation during the month of October.
 
October 12 – For the second time this season, Ontario Tech midfielder Christopher Campoli has been named U SPORTS men's soccer player of the week. The third-year superstar scored both goals in the Ridgebacks' shutout over the then-ranked No. 4 Carleton Ravens. This marks the first time a Ridgeback has been named U SPORTS player of the week multiple times in the same year. Campoli had previously become the first Ontario Tech player in any sport to receive the honour more than once. 
 
October 13 – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's hockey team opened their 2022-23 OUA season with a 5-1 victory on the road against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
 
October 15 – The golf team returns to the OUA championship at Hylands Golf Club in Ottawa, finishing 14th.
 
October 21 – The women's lacrosse program returns to the OUA championship, hosted by University of Toronto.
 
October 22 – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team picked up their second straight road win of the season on Saturday as they defeated the Western Mustangs 2-1 in London following a 6-3 win over the Windsor Lancers the prior night.
 
November 3 – Ontario Tech's Ramin Mohammadi and Christopher Campoli were amongst those recognized with men's soccer major awards by Ontario University Athletics (OUA). Both became the first in program history to win their respective awards. Mohammadi was named the OUA East coach of the year, while Campoli was named OUA East MVP.
 
November 3 – Hadeza Ismaila (Ottawa, Ont.) put up a team-high 12 points as the women's basketball team picked up a 75-59 victory over the Nipissing Lakers to open their 2022-23 season.
 
November 6 – Rowers Thomas Sullivan, Nicolas Biscaro, Taylor Ruzgys and Emmeline Meens Miller cap off the rowing season for the Ridgebacks at the Canadian University Rowing Championship.
 
November 9 – Ontario Tech's William Desmarais is named the U SPORTS men's hockey player of the week. A first-year psychology student, he picked up his first OUA win on Saturday at home with a 5-2 victory over the UQTR Patriotes.
 
November 9 – Christopher Campoli, a third-year midfielder from Ontario Tech University, was named the U SPORTS player of the year in men's soccer. Campoli, who hails from Woodbridge, is the first Ridgeback to capture the Joe Johnson Memorial Trophy. In fact, he is the first Ontario Tech athlete in any sport to be named a national player of the year. He was also named a first team All-Canadian alongside teammate Jacob Begley.
 
November 12 – Coming off a 3-2 overtime win against the Carleton Ravens on Friday night, Ontario Tech's Leif Hertz was called by the Rochester Americans to be their emergency backup goaltender (EBUG) on Saturday night in Belleville.
 

 
November 25 – Women's hockey hosts Ontario Tech's annual school day game, with a capacity crowd of 500 elementary school kids in attendance as the Ridgebacks hosted the Varsity Blues.
 
November 25 – The Ontario Tech men's basketball picked up their first win of the year in a tight 77-75 contest over Waterloo. It was the first OUA victory for interim head coach Deluxshan Pathmanathan.
 
November 29 – The Ontario Tech athletic department celebrated a record 90 student-athlete academic award winners at the Ridgebacks' annual Academic Award Brunch presented by the Office of the Provost. The 90 award winners for the 2021-22 academic year top the total of 80 award winners in 2020-21.
 

 
December 3 – The women's program host their annual game in support of the Durham Children's Aid Foundation's (DCAF) Holiday Hope Program, raising funds for their gift hampers. 
 
December 15 – Ontario Tech's Christopher Campoli, the U SPORTS player of the year, was drafted fourth overall in the CPL-U SPORTS draft by York United FC. Trivine Esprit was also drafted by York United, being picked in the second round, 11th overall.
