Treyton Cowell (Craighurst, Ont.) has been named an Ontario University Athletics (OUA) second team all-star following his performance at the men's curling championship in Peterborough.
Cowell, second stone for the Ridgebacks, joined Trent's Chris Inglis (skip) and Guelph's Jayden King (vice) and Carter Bryant (lead) on the second team.
"There is no one more deserving of this recognition than Trey. He will be very humble and deflect it back on his teammates, which speaks volumes about his character. He is a true leader on this team which comes from his years of competitive curling," said head coach Mike Stauffer. "His positive influence is not only felt by the first-year members on the team, but also by long-time teammate, skip Danton Kellington. He has a natural ability on judging stones, which is evident when you see him sweeping rocks, both for line and distance. One of the best I have seen."
In 2021-22, Cowell became the first Ridgeback to receive a curling all-star honour since the program started in 2011-12. He is now the first back-to-back winner.
His individual performance also helped Ontario Tech reach the OUA quarter-finals for only the third time in program history, and first time it happened in back-to-back seasons.
