Treyton Cowell (Craighurst, Ont.) of the men's curling team and Paige Wagner (Cambridge, Ont.) of the women's hockey team have been named the Ontario Tech student-athletes of the week for the period ending February 12.
Cowell, a game development and entrepreneurship student, had a successful weekend on the ice for the Ridgebacks at the OUA men's curling championship in Peterborough. Not only did he have personal success again at this year's championship, but the team reached the quarter-finals in consecutive seasons for the first time in program history.
Wagner, a forensic psychology student, scored her first OUA goal on Friday night against the Western Mustangs. Her goal game in her first game of the season, after battling an injury that kept her out of the lineup until Friday. Her goal was the first of the game and helped the Ridgebacks pick up a 4-2 win over Western.
This week men's hockey is home on Wednesday night for their home playoff game against the Carleton Ravens, while the women's hockey team plays their final home regular season game on Saturday night against the Nipissing Lakers.
