Pathmanathan adds another Coaching Excellence Award to résumé
OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech men's basketball coach Deluxshan Pathmanathan is bringing home another award, this time a Coaching Excellence Award from the Coaches Association of Ontario.
"While I am grateful to receive this award, the true recognition lies with the players who gave their all and trusted me with their journey. Their passion and persistence have been my constant motivation, and this honour celebrates their achievements as much as mine," said Pathmanathan. "I'd like to sincerely thank the Coaches Association of Ontario for this meaningful recognition, and Ontario Tech for their unwavering support throughout. I share this award with everyone who has been part of the journey."
Pathmanathan is one of 15 coaches chosen for this year's awards, from a pool of more than 350 nominees. Presented annually, the awards honour coaches from all sports and backgrounds who create positive, inclusive and safe sport environments while contributing to the success of their athletes, teams and communities. Each recipient also receives a $500 grant to support their team or club.
The official recognition of the awards marks the start of National Coaches Week. Over the past three years, Pathmanathan has transformed the Ontario Tech men's basketball program from a one-win season to a program-best finish in 2024, which saw them just one basket away from advancing to the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship in the OUA semifinals.
Earlier this summer, Pathmanathan was honoured with an Ontario Basketball Coaching Excellence Award at the Ontario Basketball Hall of Fame, held at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
"Deluxshan has raised the bar continuously at Ontario Tech and no one deserves this award more," said Ridgebacks athletic director Audra Sherman. "He's a pillar of the community and leads with everything our core values embody. Congratulations, coach!"
With his leadership, Ontario Tech men's basketball has raised its competitive profile in U SPORTS and strengthened its role in the Ridgebacks athletic community. The Ridgebacks begin their 2025-26 preseason on September 26 when they take on the York Lions.
