Ridgebacks drop road contest in London
LONDON, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's basketball team battled hard on the road Friday night but came up short against the Western Mustangs, falling 83–73 at Alumni Hall.
Ontario Tech came out strong, leading 18–14 after the opening quarter, but Western found its rhythm in the second, outscoring the Ridgebacks 25–16 to take control. Despite a strong third-quarter push led by Keon Baker and Caleb Kassa, the Mustangs maintained their edge through the final frame.
Baker paced the Ridgebacks with 25 points, nine rebounds, and three steals while shooting 10-for-20 from the floor. Kassa added 13 points, five rebounds, and four assists, while Tombe Pitia contributed nine points and seven rebounds. Johan Germain and Jesse Okeke each chipped in eight points, and Emmanuel Okonkwo grabbed eight rebounds while adding seven points and three steals.
Ontario Tech shot an even 50 per cent from the field and racked up 22 assists, but 23 turnovers proved costly against a Mustangs team that forced 16 steals and scored 25 points off giveaways.
Milan John led Western with 26 points, followed by Imran Armstrong with 16 points and nine assists.
The Ridgebacks continue their road trip tomorrow night when they face the Windsor Lancers at 7 p.m. Ontario Tech will then return home for their home opener on Thursday, November 6, against the Ottawa Gee-Gees at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.
