OSHAWA, Ont. – Zubair Seyed (Cambridge, Ont.) of men's basketball has been named Ontario Tech student-athlete of the week for the period ending on February 25.
Men's basketball was the only team in action this week for Ontario Tech, and Seyed has been a frequent winner of the student-athlete of the week award this season. The Ridgebacks put together an incredible 16-6 regular season run to qualify for the OUA playoffs for the first time in program history.
The Ridgebacks started their week by taking down the Lakehead Thunderwolves 89-78 in the first round of the OUA playoffs. Seyed played a significant role in the Ridgebacks' offence, with 19 points, seven assists, four rebounds, and a steal.
With their first playoff victory in hand, the Ridgebacks were off to the OUA quarter-finals, where they narrowly lost 59-54 to the Toronto Varsity Blues. Seyed was once again a driving force on offense, with 17 points, six rebounds, and five assists.
While Ontario Tech's season is done, there is still fun to look forward to as the second annual Campus Clash is set to take place on Thursday, March 21, where the Ridgebacks take on the Durham Lords.
