Scott finds net late in 4-1 loss
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks women's soccer team dropped their home opener 4-1 to the Ottawa Gee-Gees on Sunday afternoon at Vaso's Field.
Ottawa struck twice in the first half, with goals from Gracie Somers in the 19th minute and Élianne Gervais in the 29th. Maya Smith extended the lead in the 69th minute before Sabrina Mangiaracina added a fourth six minutes later, assisted by Nibo Dlamini.
The Ridgebacks broke through in the 81st minute when Mackenzie Scott found the back of the net off a pass from Elizabeth McConnell, her first goal of the season.
Ontario Tech keeper Talia Hopkin finished with eight saves in the loss, while Ottawa's Laura Salgado stopped four Ridgeback shots.
Ontario Tech is back in action on Tuesday, September 2 for the annual Campus Cup when they face off against the Durham Lords. They'll return to OUA action on September 4 when they host the Trent Excalibur at Vaso's Field.
