PREVIEW: Men's basketball on the cusp of nationals

The Ontario Tech Ridgeback's men's basketball team are traveling to Kingston this weekend to face the no. 3 seeded Queen's Gaels in the OUA semifinals.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgeback's men's basketball team are traveling to Kingston this weekend to face the no. 3 seeded Queen's Gaels in the OUA semifinals.

Zubair Seyed led the offence scoring 26 against the Brock Badgers, being the only player in the game to reach double digits and shooting 100 per cent from the three. Raeshaun Ambris grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, and added four points, while Ayub Nurhussien put up nine points and six rebounds.

In their quarter final game against the no. 2 seed Lakehead Thunderwolves, the Ridgebacks kept up with the fast paced game, trading the lead with the Thunderwolves throughout the game. Ayub Nurhussein came off the bench to shoot 4-8 from the three-point line and finished with a game-high 25 points. Zubair Seyed added 22 points, shooting 3-6 from the three-point-line, and adding six assists. Closing the gap,  the Ridgebacks outscored the Thunderwolves by 12 in the second half. 

In the two match ups this year, the Queen's Gaels took a 99-78 win over the Ridgebacks at home, and a 86-79 win in Kingston, Ont. at the ARC. The Gaels are led by Ollie Elgen who averaged 18.8 points per game through 20 games played this season.

With a win, the Ridgebacks will find themselves in an OUA Finals and with a ticket to British Columbia for their first appearance at the U SPORTS Men's Basketball Championship.
