Road warrior Ridgebacks defeat Lakehead in quarterfinals

The Ontario Tech men's basketball team is going to the OUA semifinals for the first time in program history after defeating the Lakehead Thunderwolves 80-73 in Thunder Bay, Ont.

THUNDER BAY, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's basketball team is going to the OUA semifinals for the first time in program history after defeating the Lakehead Thunderwolves 80-73 in Thunder Bay, Ont.

Ontario Tech was led by Ayub Nurhussien, who poured in a game-high 25 points, including four three-pointers. Zubair Seyed added 22 points and six assists, while Raeshaun Ambris contributed 15 points, seven made free throws and five assists.

The Ridgebacks stormed out to a 21-19 first-quarter lead before a sluggish second frame saw them score just 10 points. However, they responded with a 23-point third quarter and closed the game strong with 26 in the final frame. With seconds left in the game, it was Ambris who stepped to the line and sunk the game clinching free throws, sealing the upset over the 18-4 Thunderwolves. 

With the win, the Ridgebacks are set to take on the Queen's Gaels in the OUA semifinals.
