Varsity Blues spoil Ridgebacks' season opener
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks women's soccer team dropped their season opener 2-0 to the Toronto Varsity Blues on Friday night at Vaso's Field.
Toronto's Julia Cristovao broke the deadlock in the 58th minute, finishing a chance set up by Bryanna Campbell. She later doubled the lead in the 67th minute with her second of the match.
The Ridgebacks pressed throughout the second half, recording eight shots compared to Toronto's seven, but were unable to beat Varsity Blues goalkeeper Maria Godoy-Atrash, who finished with five saves.
Overall, Toronto out shot Ontario Tech 14-11, while the Ridgebacks held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Sunday, August 31 when the visiting Ottawa Gee-Gees make a stop at Vaso's Field at 3:15 p.m.
