Ridgebacks keep rolling with OT win
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's hockey team edged the Nipissing Lakers 3–2 in overtime Saturday afternoon at the Campus Ice Centre, earning their fifth win in a row.
Kyle Leonard opened the scoring late in the first period, burying a feed from Ben Roode and Braiden Koran at 15:15 to give the Ridgebacks a 1–0 lead. Nipissing evened things up midway through the second on a goal from David Campbell.
Ontario Tech regained the advantage early in the third when Duston Hutton scored just 37 seconds in, assisted by Antoine Desrochers. The Lakers responded with a power-play goal from Noah Vom Scheidt at 12:26 to send the game to extra time.
In overtime, it was Koran who sealed the win with a power-play marker at 4:16, set up again by Desrochers and Zachary Marquis.
Goaltender Édouard Gauthier stopped 26 shots for the victory, while Nipissing's Zach Roy made 44 saves in a strong performance at the other end.
This week, the Ridgebacks will travel to Kingston to take on the RMC Paladins on Wednesday, Oct. 29, and the Queen's Gaels on Saturday, Nov. 1.
