
OSHAWA, ONTARIO – Ontario Tech University will proudly recognize the accomplishments of the Class of 2025, set against the scenic backdrop of Polonsky Commons at the north Oshawa campus, from Wednesday, June 4 to Friday, June 6. As it confers more than 2,200 degrees across six ceremonies, the university will welcome a new generation of changemakers to its growing alumni community of more than 31,000.
Convocation is more than a formal milestone. It's a heartfelt gathering that brings together graduates, their families, friends and the campus community to reflect on the academic journey, celebrate achievements and look ahead to new beginnings. This shared experience is a defining moment for Ontario Tech students, highlighting their resilience, growth and the relationships formed throughout their university experience.
This year’s ceremonies will also recognize excellence, leadership and community impact through the conferral of six honorary doctorates. These distinguished recipients include innovators, advocates, entrepreneurs and national leaders who embody Ontario Tech’s spirit of progress, purpose and service.
- Mr. Donato Ardellini, Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Environmental 360 Solutions, for his visionary leadership in the Canadian environmental management sector, commitment to higher education philanthropy, and dedication to the community.
- Ms. Janet Bannister, Founder and General Partner of Staircase Ventures, for her visionary and exceptional leadership in the Canadian technology ecosystem, and her significant contributions to innovation and business growth in Canada.
- Ms. Arlene Dickinson, Founder and General Partner of District Ventures Capital, and longtime mentor on the hit television program Dragons’ Den, for her exceptional leadership in Canadian business, innovation and philanthropy, and her demonstrated commitment to community service.
- Dr. Christopher Mushquash, Professor at Lakehead University and the Northern Ontario School of Medicine University, and the Canada Research Chair in Indigenous Mental Health and Addiction, for his devotion to advancing Indigenous mental health, his innovative work to improve the quality of life and care for Indigenous youth and communities, and for the impact of his research in influencing federal funding policies for First Nations.
- Mr. Stephen Poloz, the ninth Governor of the Bank of Canada (2013 to 2020), and current board member of Enbridge and CGI Inc., for his exemplary record of leadership and commitment to Canada’s economic prosperity, and qualities of strength and accountability.
- The Honourable Michael H. Tulloch, Chief Justice of Ontario and President of the Court of Appeal for Ontario, for his distinguished leadership within the Ontario and Canadian judiciary, his tireless commitment to advancing inclusive justice, and his unwavering advocacy for diversity and equity.
