Ridgebacks fall to UQTR in battle of nationally ranked teams
TROIS-RIVIÈRES, Que. – In a matchup between two nationally ranked programs, the number 6 Ontario Tech Ridgebacks saw their seven-game win streak come to an end with a 3–0 loss to the number 2 UQTR Patriotes on Saturday afternoon.
UQTR struck early, opening the scoring at 2:09 of the first period on a goal from Zachary Gravel. The Patriotes added to their lead in the second when Conor Frenette scored at 5:01 to make it 2–0.
Ontario Tech continued to push, looking for the spark that had carried them through their recent run, but UQTR stretched the lead less than four minutes into the third as William Dumoulin finished off a setup from Thomas Auger.
The Ridgebacks generated 19 shots but couldn't break through, while goaltender Beckett Langkow turned aside 25 shots to keep the game within reach.
Both teams went 0-for-2 on the power play.
Ontario Tech looks to bounce back on Friday, November 14, when they host the Queen's Gaels at 7 p.m. at the Campus Ice Centre for Toonie Dog Night.
