Ridgebacks show fight in narrow road loss

The Ontario Tech women's soccer team put together a strong performance at Downsview Park on Monday afternoon, but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to the TMU Bold.

TORONTO, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's soccer team put together a strong performance at Downsview Park on Monday afternoon, but came up just short in a 3-2 loss to the TMU Bold.

After falling behind late in the first half, Tienna Martins quickly answered for the Ridgebacks with a goal in the 41st minute to even the score at 1-1 heading into halftime.

The Bold struck twice in the second half — including a go-ahead goal in the 69th minute — to pull ahead 3-1 before Sam Russell netted a late goal in the 86th minute to close the gap.

Jacqueline Cardy made two saves in goal for Ontario Tech, while Abbie Russell and Sam Russell both picked up yellow cards in the opening half.

The Ridgebacks will wrap up their regular season on the road with a stop in Kingston, Ont. to take on the Queen's Gaels on Friday, October 10 at 4 p.m.
