Sold-out crowd sees quarterfinal series evened at one
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's hockey team will head back to Kingston, Ont. for a decisive Game 3 after falling 3–1 to the Queen's Gaels in Game 2 of the OUA quarterfinals on Friday night at a sold-out Campus Ice Centre.
With over 500 fans in attendance, the Ridgebacks opened the scoring early, but Queen's responded with three unanswered goals to even the best-of-three series at one game apiece.
Harrie Jones gave Ontario Tech the lead at 3:40 of the first period, finishing off a play set up by Elissa Burton to send the home crowd into a frenzy. The Gaels answered later in the frame, as Taylor Eastwood capitalized at 13:09 to tie the game 1–1 through 20 minutes.
After a scoreless second period that saw both teams trade power-play opportunities, the deadlock carried into the final frame. Sophie Hudson broke the tie at 17:51 of the third, converting on a late push by Queen's. An empty-net goal from Mikayla Cranney at 19:13 sealed the result.
Zoe McGee turned aside 23 of 25 shots in goal for Ontario Tech, while Emma Tennant made 12 saves for the Gaels. Queen's outshot the Ridgebacks 26–13 on the night.
With the series now tied, the quarterfinal will be decided on Sunday, March 1 at 8 p.m. in Kingston, Ont.
