Ridgebacks strike in overtime to down RMC
KINGSTON, Ont. – The Ontario Tech men's hockey team earned a hard-fought 2–1 overtime victory over the RMC Paladins on Saturday, January 31, snapping the deadlock late in the extra frame.
The opening period was scoreless, but Ontario Tech controlled the pace early, out shooting RMC and setting the tone with sustained pressure. The Ridgebacks broke through midway through the second period when Ludovic Dufort opened the scoring at 9:35, finishing a play set up by Duston Hutton and Jeremy Michaud to give Ontario Tech a 1–0 lead.
RMC answered later in the frame to even the game heading into the second intermission, setting up a tightly contested third period. Despite chances at both ends, regulation solved nothing, sending the game to overtime.
In the extra session, Ontario Tech capitalized on a power play opportunity, as Zachary Marquis buried the game-winning goal at 2:39, with Kyloe Ellis picking up the assist to seal the victory.
Beckett Langkow was steady between the pipes for the Ridgebacks, stopping 18 of 19 shots, while Ontario Tech finished the night with a 41–19 edge in shots on goal.
Ontario Tech returns home for its next contest on Thursday, February 5, when it hosts the Nipissing Lakers.
