Papaspyropoulos lifts Ridgebacks past Nipissing in overtime
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks men's hockey team picked up a 4–3 overtime victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Thursday, February 5, at the Campus Ice Centre.
Nipissing opened the scoring at 5:34 of the first period before adding a second goal less than two minutes later. Ontario Tech responded at 8:29, as Ben Roode finished a feed from Ludovic Dufort and Duston Hutton to cut the deficit in half. Roode then tied the game at 12:25, converting on the power play to send the teams into the first intermission even at 2–2.
Ontario Tech took its first lead of the night in the second period when Nolan Ling finished a feed from Zachary Marquis and Ishan Mittoo to put the Ridgebacks ahead 3–2.
The Lakers forced overtime late in the third period with a shorthanded goal, sending the game to extra time despite sustained pressure from the Ridgebacks.
Just over two minutes into overtime, Alex Papaspyropoulos ended it, scoring the game-winner at 2:22 off an assist from Gabriel Bernier to secure the home victory.
Edouard Gauthier turned aside 18 shots in goal for Ontario Tech, while the Ridgebacks held a 35–21 advantage in shots on the night.
Ontario Tech returns to the ice at home on Saturday, February 7, when they host the Ottawa Gee-Gees at 3 p.m.
