Langkow soars in rookie season with Ridgebacks
OSHAWA, Ont. – Beckett Langkow made an immediate impact during his rookie season as a goaltender for the Ontario Tech men's hockey team.
After an impressive career with the WHL's Medicine Hat Tigers, Langkow seamlessly transitioned into U SPORTS hockey, bringing composure, technical skill, and leadership between the pipes.
"I think just trying to manage my time the best," Langkow said of the adjustment to university life. "Coming in with school and having not done it for a few years, coming into a new team-college schedule are a bit different. Time management and making sure you keep on top of things school and hockey-wise was big. The guys on the team made it a really good transition for me and welcomed me right away."
His quick adjustment delivered several standout performances for the Ridgebacks, including a 39-save shutout against the Lakehead Thunderwolves, leading his team to a 3-0 win. His presence in the net gave his team a calming influence and consistency that kept the Ridgebacks competitive.
"I never knew what to expect coming to a new team, but I think the coaches trusted me right away and gave me an opportunity. I just took that opportunity and ran with it," said Langkow. "It was a good year for myself and the team as well. As a goalie, if your team has success, it reflects on you too."
Langkow's team's first mentality was not unnoticed; fellow rookie Kyle Leonard said, "Coming in as a rookie is always tough, but he acted like a vet in the net, and we could not have been more proud to have Beckett as our goalie."
At the end of the season, Langkow received recognition for his exceptional debut with a spot on the OUA All-Rookie Team. The mixture of his junior experience, work ethic, and adaptability made him a foundational piece for the Ridegbacks, with a bright future ahead.
