Ridgebacks earn first season win
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks earned their first win of the season with a 2-1 victory over the Nipissing Lakers on Sunday afternoon at Vaso's Field.
Erion Metaj scored both goals for Ontario Tech, opening the scoring in the 21st minute off a pass from Mathias Warwick. He doubled the lead in the 54th minute, finishing a setup from Noah Mossavat.
Nipissing cut the deficit in the 65th minute when Caelan Walraven scored with an assist from Gianni Bordieri, but the Ridgebacks held on for the one-goal win.
Both goalkeepers finished with three saves, as Peter Sheberstov earned the victory in net for Ontario Tech and Dante Emmanuel took the loss for Nipissing.
Ontario Tech out shot Nipissing 14-12, while also leading in corner kicks by an 8-4 margin.
The Ridgebacks will be back in action on Tuesday, September 2 when they take on the Durham Lords in the annual Campus Cup.
