Ridgebacks fall to TMU at home

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks fought valiantly but came up short against Toronto Metropolitan, falling 76-63 on Saturday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks fought valiantly but came up short against Toronto Metropolitan, falling 76-63 on Saturday night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

Despite the result, the Ridgebacks displayed resilience and determination throughout the game, highlighted by standout performances from Zubair Seyed, who scored a team-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, and Ayub Nurhussien, who added 12 points and four boards.

The Ridgebacks were competitive early, trailing by just five points after the first quarter and narrowing the gap to four at halftime. Ontario Tech's defensive effort and Seyed's sharpshooting kept them in contention, even as Toronto Metropolitan extended their lead in the second half behind Aaron Rhooms' 31-point performance.

Ontario Tech found success at the free-throw line, converting 80 per cent of their attempts, and demonstrated strong contributions off the bench with 29 points. While the Ridgebacks couldn't overcome Toronto Metropolitan's balanced attack and timely shooting, their gritty play and never-quit attitude earned admiration from the home crowd.

The game was also the annual Beach Night at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The Ridgebacks will now head out on an extended road trip starting with a stop in the nation's capitol next weekend to take on Carleton Ravens. They'll return back to the CRWC for the final two games of the season, starting Friday, February 14 against the Ottawa Gee-Gees.
