Cummings takes next step with CEBL’s Shooting Stars
OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech guard AJ Cummings is taking the next step in his basketball journey, signing with the Scarborough Shooting Stars as part of the inaugural Canadian Elite Basketball League (CEBL) Signing Day.
A foundational piece of the Ridgebacks program, Cummings suited up for Ontario Tech from 2019 to 2023 and etched his name into the record books. He ranks fifth all-time in program scoring with 612 points, while holding the top spot in both three-pointers made and three-point percentage.
Following his initial tenure with the Ridgebacks, Cummings spent the 2024–25 season with Queen's, where he averaged 10 points per game while shooting 39 per cent from beyond the arc. Now, he's returning to Ontario Tech to pursue his Master of Education with his professional opportunity adding another chapter to a full-circle journey.
"It's truly an honour to sign with the Scarborough Shooting Stars. Having attended Pope in Scarborough for high school, the community has always felt like home to me," said Cummings. "I'm incredibly grateful for this opportunity to learn from experienced pros, soak in as much knowledge as I can, and continue developing my game. I'm excited to bring everything I learn back to Ontario Tech for next season and continue to add on to the winning culture Ontario Tech has built."
Ontario Tech head coach Deluxshan Pathmanathan highlighted both Cummings' growth and the significance of the moment.
"I'm extremely proud to see AJ's hard work and dedication recognized at the next level with his signing to the Scarborough Shooting Stars," said Pathmanathan. "His on-court accomplishments are a true reflection of the commitment, discipline, and growth he's demonstrated throughout his journey. This is a well-deserved opportunity, and I am excited to watch him grow through this experience."
Cummings becomes the fourth Ridgeback in program history to join a CEBL roster, continuing a growing pipeline from Ontario Tech to the professional ranks.
