Ridgebacks battle York on Academic Excellence Night

The Ontario Tech women's basketball team fell 65–53 to the York Lions on Friday, January 16, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Academic Excellence Night.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's basketball team fell 65–53 to the York Lions on Friday, January 16, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre on Academic Excellence Night.

York opened the game with a seven-point advantage after the first quarter, but the Ridgebacks responded with a strong second frame to cut the deficit to just one at the break, trailing 33–32 at halftime. Ontario Tech continued to battle in a tightly contested third quarter before York pulled away in the final 10 minutes to secure the win.

Adra Barnet led the Ridgebacks with 10 points, while Elliot Cowan and Amarachi Achioso each added nine. Isabella Stuckey and Quincy Okubasu contributed on the glass as Ontario Tech worked to stay within reach throughout the second half.

Prior to the game, Ellycea Burke, Felicity Villarin, Victoria Myers, and Ayat Weber were recognized for their academic achievements as part of Academic Excellence Night, celebrating the dedication and commitment of Ridgebacks student-athletes in the classroom.

The Ridgebacks are back in action today when they host the Guelph Gryphons at 6 p.m. in the annual Shoot for the Cure game, supporting breast cancer research and awareness.
