Ontario Tech adds varsity volleyball for 2027 season
OSHAWA, Ont. – Ontario Tech University is set to expand its varsity athletics offerings, as the Ridgebacks prepare to introduce men's and women's volleyball to their Ontario University Athletics (OUA) lineup beginning in the 2027–2028 season.
The addition was officially approved by the OUA on March 17, marking an important milestone in the continued growth of Ontario Tech Ridgebacks athletics.
"This marks an exciting moment for our campus community," said Audra Sherman, Director of Athletics. "The addition of varsity men's and women's volleyball reflects our commitment to expanding competitive opportunities for student-athletes while strengthening our focus on high-performance sport."
Volleyball will be the first new varsity sport introduced at Ontario Tech since the launch of men's and women's basketball in 2018.
"Volleyball has seen incredible growth in Durham Region and is one of the most popular offerings within our Campus Recreation programming," Sherman added. "These new teams will create meaningful pathways for talented athletes to compete at the varsity level, while also enhancing school spirit and engagement across our campus community."
"Expanding our varsity athletics offerings is an important part of fostering a vibrant and inclusive campus experience," said Dr. Steven Murphy, President and Vice-Chancellor, Ontario Tech University. "Launching varsity volleyball programs broadens opportunities for our student-athletes and reinforces our focus on student success both in the classroom and in competition. We look forward to seeing these programs grow and thrive in the years ahead."
