Ridgebacks gain a defensive presence with addition of McConnell
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's soccer team is adding a defensive presence to the 2024 recruiting class with the commitment of Elizabeth McConnell.
The Pickering native was a stand-out player for the St. Mary C.S.S. Sr Girls team, where she started at centre back in Grade 10. St. Mary won the Lake Ontario Secondary School championship the following season and was undefeated at OFSSA. McConnell would be named co-MVP for an incredible season, finishing with six goals and eight assists.
She would go on to join the Pickering FC U17 OPDL team in 2022 and would play as a call-up for League 1 Reserves U19 women's team that went on to win the league and championship, as well as making it to the finals of the FTF Fall Showdown in 2023.
"Elizabeth will be a physical presence, adding some height to our backline," said women's soccer head coach Audra Sherman. "A key strength is her technical ability on the ball and comfort level in distribution under pressure playing out of the back, a quality we highly value in our players. Elizabeth is an excellent addition to our 2024 class. "
McConnell will enroll in Environmental Biology When she arrives on campus this fall.
