OSHAWA, Ont. – Jack Sears (Ajax, Ont.) from men's soccer and Jailyn Joensen (Brooklin, Ont.) from lacrosse have been named Ontario Tech's student-atheletes of the week for the period ending on October 29.

Joensen, a third-year Biological Sciences major, is picking up her second athlete of the week nod this year after being named on OUA All-Star along side fellow lacrosse midfielder Kendra Orr (Whitby, Ont.) at the OUA Lacrosse Championship. While at Tindall Field, Joensen picked up eight goals on the weekend, and helped the Ridgebacks draw even in their first game of the weekend against the Laurier Golden Hawks.

Sears, who is currently completing his Masters of Science in Computer Science, etched his name along side the legends of the Ontario Tech soccer program on Saturday afternoon by nailing the penalty kick that sent the Ridgebacks men's soccer program to their first OUA semi-final in school history. The Ridgebacks will be back in action Wednesday at 8 p.m. when they travel down the highway to York Lions Stadium to take on the York Lions.

With so much team success this week for the Ridgebacks, it can be hard to acknwoledge everyone, but honourable mentions are needed for the Ridgebacks men's hockey team who have won three out of their last four games with several indivual performances worthy of athelete of the week nods. Also deserving of an honourable mention are our novice rowers, and varsity rowers Kelton Sutherland (Courtice, Ont.) and Zach Dixon (Georgetown, Ont.), who brought home three bronze medals at the OUA Rowing Championship. Finally, an honourable mention for Kevon Grant (Oshawa, Ont.) who was instrumental in net for the Ridgebacks against TMU, and made a pivotal penalty save to help move Ontario Tech through to the semi-finals.
