Mossavat to represent Canadian senior team at Pan-Am Championships
OSHAWA, Ont. – After representing the Canada at the 2023 Junior Pan-American Championship, Ridgeback midfielder Noah Mossavat is taking the next big step in his karate career by making the move to the senior national team for the first time.
The 2024 Pan-American Championships start on May 25 in Punta del Este, Uruguay. Mossvat is coming off a silver medal performance at the Montreal Open this past weekend.
"This is a very big milestone in my karate career. This is my first time on the senior national team. This means that there is no higher level than this," said Mossavat. "These athletes are all truly the best in their country…There are real adult fighters who are in their primes."
Mossavat made the move to the senior division at the 2023 National Championships where he earned a bronze medal. While third place is not normally enough to qualify for the Pan-Am Games, a retirement sees Mossavat with a chance to prove himself as a senior athlete on an international stage.
"I'm looking forward to just going and competing and discovering the top level of karate," said Mossavat. "I am excited to see how I measure up to these pros so early in my career. Also the senior national team gives a lot more freedom to competitors than the junior national team. So I'm excited to feel like an adult and be responsible for my own success."
Mossavat says his Ridgebacks team mates have always been very supportive of his karate career, and understanding of the moments throughout the year were he has to take a step back from soccer to compete in high-level tournaments.
"A lot of appreciation also has to go towards my coaches, who allow me to take time off of soccer for karate and don't give on my soccer development due to my shared commitment."
When Mossavat returns to the Ridgebacks this fall, he'll be a part of a team that is looking to prove itself before hosting the 2024 U SPORTS Men's Soccer Championship at Vaso's Field this fall.
"I am extremely excited because of nationals, there is a high standard amongst our team…Most athletes go through there entire career without having had the chance to compete in a national championship. No one wants to miss out on this opportunity."
