Esprit signs on for second season with York United
TORONTO, Ont. – Former Ridgeback midfielder Trivine Esprit is back for a second season with York United after signing a Canadian Premier League (CPL) U SPORTS contract on Monday afternoon.
York United drafted Esprit with the second pick in the second round of the 2023 CPL U SPORTS Draft, and Esprit went on to appear in 11 games for The Nine Stripes last season, becoming the first Ridgeback to appear in a CPL game. He showcased his versatility throughout the season by occupying the midfield and dropping to the right-back as York United battled through injuries.
Esprit played a pivotal role in their midfield in his first year with the Ridgebacks as they finished the regular season with an 11-1 record. He was named an OUA second-team all-star and won the Ridgebacks men's soccer Rookie of the Year award at the 2023 Ridgebacks Awards Gala.
He also appeared for League 1Ontario sides Unionville Milliken SC, Simcoe County Rovers FC, and Darby FC before signing with York United last season.
"We are truly excited for Trivine. He has put a lot of time and effort to reach his goals," said Ridgebacks head coach Ramin Mohammadi. "Trivine's commitment to excellence and high performance has paid off, and all of us at Ontario Tech look forward to see him compete at highest level again this season."
