Ridgebacks begin 2024 with victory at home
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ridgebacks men's soccer team began their 2024 season with a bang, picking up a 2-1 win over the visiting Queen's Gaels in front of a packed crowd at Vaso's Field.
Kairo Coore (Whitby, Ont.) opened up his Ridgebacks account with a goal 39 minutes into the game and picked up an assist along side Jack Sears (Ajax, Ont.) on Finn Bansal's (London, Ont.) first goal of his Ridgeback career in the 60th minute.
Queen's began to push the action in the game's final moments and found their way onto the board with a goal from Josh Crete, assisted by Damiano Sinaguglia.
The Ridgebacks will get a few days to rest before they take on the Durham Lords in the annual Campus Cup, one of the longest-standing athletic traditions between the two schools. Ontario Tech will look to get back to their winning ways after dropping last year's game on penalties. Gates open at 5 p.m. with several new activities for students to show their school spirit, and games begin at 6 p.m.
