Campus Clash returns on March 20

The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Durham Lords are set to tip off the third annual Campus Clash on Thursday, March 20, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech Ridgebacks and Durham Lords are set to tip off the third annual Campus Clash on Thursday, March 20, at the Campus Recreation and Wellness Centre.

The day starts with a chance to win prizes with a student-skills competition and a three-point shoot-out from 3 p.m. until 4:30 p.m., followed by the Intramural All-Star Game hosted by Campus Recreation featuring the best intramural players from this year.

Throughout the day, there will be plenty of opportunities to show your school pride with free giveaways and popcorn. Free t-shirts will be given out to the first to arrive, and an iPad giveaway will take place during the Heads or Tails event between the women's and men's games.

The women's match-up starts at 6:05 p.m. and features a match up of exciting talent. The Lords have had an exciting year with Onika Leverage, Emma Bergen and Telia Campbell all leading the team throughout this season finishing fifth in the East Division. Telia Campbell has been an asset to the team playing 34.1 minutes per game, first year Emily Balkissoon leads the team with 9.2 points per game while shooting 30 per cent from three.

On the other hand the Ridgebacks battled hard through their season, rookie Kaleah Gosse was a big part of the team this year playing 28.6 minutes per game and leading the team with 11.6 points per game. Brianna Morrison is no newbie to the Campus Clash being the only athlete to represent the Lords in green and gold and the Ridgebacks in blue and orange.

Lastly, this year's men's match-up will be the battle of the year with both the Ridgebacks and Lords having a win under their belt. The Ridgebacks have been on a high, clinching a playoff spot after beating Carleton Ravens and upsetting second seed Lakehead Thunderwolves. Zubair Seyed and Keon Baker have both had a big impact on this team with Seyed averaging 19.3 points per game and Baker with 16 points per game. The Ridgebacks took down the Brock Badgers and upset the no. 2 seed Lakehead Thunderwolves before finishing three points shy of beating Queen's in the OUA Semifinals in one of the best games of the year.

The Lords have had another spectacular season finishing 17-1 in the conference and were ranked no. 7 in the country in the CCAA national rankings. This weekend, they secured their first OCAA Finals win since 1997 with a 67-61 win over the Humber Hawks. Mark Stoop's impact this season has led him to be named East Player of the Year and CCAA All-Canadian playing 27.9 minutes per game and 32 blocks per game. The Lords have many other award winners this year, Jasean Elliot is named East Defensive Player of the Year, and Rudy Fahik with East Sixth Man of the Year.
