Women's basketball win second Campus Clash trophy
OSHAWA, Ont. – The Ontario Tech women's basketball team is taking home the Campus Clash trophy for the second year in a row after defeating the Durham Lords 34-19.
Campus Clash was jam-packed with moments from start to finish, with the skills competition starting the day and bringing Durham and Ontario Tech students together before Campus Recreation's Intramural All-Star Game got the game action of the day. Campus Clash also saw several Ontario Tech teams arrive in full uniforms, including the women's hockey team in full pads to support the Ridgebacks basketball teams.
When the women's basketball game got underway, Allie Dunnett (Sussex, N.B.) stole the show and carried the Ridgebacks with 13 points, including three three-point bombs that helped the Ridgebacks pull away with the lead. Dunnett was named the Ridgebacks Player of the Game before raising the trophy with her teammates.
The men's match-up was a triple overtime thriller that ultimately saw the Durham Lords secure a 58-56 win in the game's final moments.
The Ridgebacks led for a large portion of the game, but the Lords battled back into the game in the last five minutes of regulation, and Keon Baker was called on repeatedly in crunch time to get clutch shots. Baker was named the Ridgebacks Player of the Game with a 10-point performance while chipping some tenacious defense down the stretch.
