Ridgebacks rowing competes at Brock Invitational

The Ridgebacks rowing team faced a windy start to the Brock Invitational that caused a nearly four hour wind delay before the team finally took to the waters.

ST. CATHARINES, Ont. – The Ridgebacks rowing team faced a windy start to the Brock Invitational that caused a nearly four hour wind delay before the team finally took to the waters.
 
The Women's double of Kara Woodworth and Kierstyn Hawke had one of the Ridgeback's top finishes of the day, placing fourth over all with a time of 7:56.56.  The men's novice 8+ (coxswain Janvi Patel, Ignacio Arroyo-Lopez, Jack Roughley, Gordon Adams, Jean-Pierre Bresse, Liam Keenan, Nathan Taitt, Braydon Vaneck, Barnabas Agbekorodewas) were the second fourth overall finish with a finish time of 7:20.90. 
 
The men's pair (Andrew Dallison, Owen Nicholls) posted an eighht place finish, with a time of 8:04.60.  The time of 8:46.23 earned the women's pair (Emily Phillips, Alexi Buis) an elevnth place finish.
 
Ethan Kelly was the first of the lightweight men's crews hit the water in the men's single, having a solid race, with a time of 8:38.70 earning him sixth place.
 
In the men's double, the crew of Alex Pardy and Nathan Washington placed 12th (8:00.21) and the crew of Hunter Bishop and Isaac Phin-Donaldson debuted in their first race of the season, placing 18th over all.
 
The Women's Novice 8+ (Coxswain Janvi Patel, Lorena Jones, Mariam Anthony, Saffiya Mehraban, Hana Haytaoglu, Alya Rasoul, Farida Shafey,  kaitlyn Aude, Anjali Jagannathan) had a strong sixth place finish with a time of 8:22.64.
 
Kierstyn Hawke and Rahma Khan both had strong races in the women's single event, but overall placings were unavailable, as there were no times for the first heat of the event, where Hawke placed a close third.  Khan had a solid race as well, placing sixth in her heat with a time of 10:29.39. 
 
The women's eight (Coxswain Erin McCready, Emily Phillips, Alexi Buis, Alexie Linardatos, Emma Quinn, Karlie Stewart, Emily Gallant, Natalia Quesnel, Sophia Tucker) had a strong race, placing fifth overall.  This is the first time since 2011 the Ridgebacks have been in a position to enter this event.
 
The final race of the day was the men's lightweight pair (Zach Dixon, Thomas Sullivan) who had a great race, placing seventh overall with a tie of 7:41.70.
 
The Ridgebacks hit the water again in St. Catharines for the OUA Championships in two weeks.
